What is Hospice
Hospice is a special kind of care for patients and families facing a life-limiting illness or condition.
Hospice Care enables patients to live their final days to the fullest in the comfort of their own homes and in the care of their loved ones where ever possible
Hospice Care goal is palliative rather than curative.
Hospice Care emphasizes quality of life rather than length of life. It focuses on pain and symptom control to enable the patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible.
Hospice honors the wishes of the person. For many patients, end of life care at a familiar surrounding of one's home and home-like environment, like nursing homes and assisted living residences is so much comfortable than the hospital.
Hospice treats not only the physical aspect but also emotional and spiritual needs of patients. Hospice supports family and caregivers by offering counseling, training and education.
Hospice Care is not time limited. As long as the patient's physician and the Care team physician certifies that the patient has terminal illness, the patient may continue to receive Hospice services beyond the 6- month period or less of life expectancy.
